Uintatherium belonged to a group of prehistoric mammals known as uintatheres, which were characterized by their massive size, unique dentition, and peculiar horn-like structures on their skulls.

The male Uintatherium had three pairs of horns, probably used in mating combat and rituals. The skull was concave, limiting brain-size, and the elongated canine teeth were larger in males than in females.
